Blue Hill resident Bena Gillespie, 99, died Thursday, August 16, 2007, at Blue Hill Care Center, in Blue Hill.
• • Bena was born December 23, 1907, to Herman and Johanna (Flense) Herman near Hildreth, Neb. She attended school and graduated from the eighth grade in Franklin County. She married Verne Gillespie of Lincoln and they lived there
until they retired and moved to Edgar, Neb. While in Lin-
coln, she worked for Russell Stover Candy Company for many years.
In 1987, after the death of her husband, she moved to Blue Hill. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading' and gardening.
She is survived by one sister, Rena Wilken of Hildreth, Neb.; two sisters-in-law, Frieda Wilken of Clarinda, Iowa, and Dorothy Gillespie of Lincoln, Neb; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, John Hemmen and George Hemmen; three sisters, Eda Hemmen, Anne Hemmen and Rixte Wittfoth; three, brothers-in-law, Emil Gillespie, Arthur Wilken and Frederick Wittfoth; and one sister-in-law, Esther Hemmen.
Services are at Merten-Butler Mortuary chapel in Blue Hill with the Rev. M. Annette Minderman officiating.
