Note: Frederick and Bertha had a cabin at Storm Lake, Iowa which they enjoyed very much. Bertha died of stomach cancer. Frederick was very depresssed following her death and committed suicide 5 years to the month after her death. They had a very happy marriage and were very kind to others. Frederick built a house in Holstein about 1918, costing a significant amount of money at the time. It was a grand house, divided into 2 halves, paneled by glass windows. Bertha kept one half closed off for visitors, to be opened on those special occasions. Frederick made a laundry shoot from the second floor to the basement. Frederick owned 3 farms which he divided among his three boys after his death.
