Eleanor Parsons Bailey Mitchell, 95, died peacefully in her sleep, Sunday, February 14, 2010, at Flesher’s Fairview Health Care Center, Asheville. She was born April 8, 1914 in Garden City, Long Island, N.Y. She moved to Asheville in 1947 with her husband, Dr. Harmon Jackson Bailey.

She was a loving wife and mother to five daughters and to so many others who loved her. She was an active member of All Souls Episcopal Church, an avid gardener, hiker, reader, and musician.

Eleanor was the daughter of the late Argyll Rosse and Eleanor Peters Parsons of Long Island and Asheville. She was married to the late Dr. Harmon Jackson Bailey from 1942 to 1972 and the late Everett Mitchell from 1973 to 2003. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Argyll Rosse Parsons Jr, Douglas Van Ness Parsons, William Parsons, and Ralph Peters Parsons.

Surviving are her five daughters, Eleanor Bilbrey and husband, Ed, Alice Lee Brewer and husband, Dorsey, Polly Hensley and husband, Bill, Marcia McCarley and husband, John, and Sara Sprinkle and husband, Ron; and nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at Calvary Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Dr. Virginia Monroe and the Rev. Stephen Hines officiating.
