Mrs. Byers was born in Vallejo, Calif. to Leander Burton Shelley and Edna Harriet Adams. She graduated from Sonoma High School in Sonoma, Calif. in 1952 and married Clarence "John" W. Byers on Nov. 14, 1970 in Reno, Nev. The couple lived in South San Francisco from 1970 to 1981 where Nancy worekd for the Lipton Tea Company and Hiram Walker Distillery. Shen then moved to the Sprague River/Beatty area and became a homemaker until her death.
Mrs. Byers belonged to a number of community and volunteer organizations, including the Lioness Club in Sprague River, where she was vice president; the Lioness Auxiliary, where she was treasurer; the Klamath Hospice where she volunteered; and the Homemakers Club in 1999, she was awarded the Pioneer Days Lioness of the Year.
She loved to play cards and was a member of the Sprague River and Beatty Card Clubs. Other hobbies and interests included genealogy, camping, reading, going to garage sales, listening to the Statler Brothers, George Jones and other county and western music, talking and visiting with friends and family and collecting "Beanie Babies" and "Kiddie Cars."
Survivors include her birth daughters, Carol Blair of Forest Ranch, Calif., and Lori Ann Scott; step-daughters, Kathy Byers of Merrill; Sheila Byers of Sun Valley, Calif.; Joanna Hibbeler of Dallas, Ore.; Vicki Bosik of Mountain View, Calif; brother Norman Shelly of Modesto, Calif.; sisters, Lois Matthews of SOnoma, Calif., and Joan Vaillareal of Santa Rosa, Calif.
She was also survived by three granddaughters anda special friend, her bleoved cat of 20 years, "Mouther".
