John Christian Seitz was born on his parent's farm south of Wapakoneta. He married Margaret Martha Metzger on August 7, 1860. They lived in St. Marys for a while. In 1868 they bought 160 acres of farmland from his father. They didn't farm the land themselves, but leased it to a tenant. Later in 1868 they moved into Wapakoneta and eventually bought a home at 308 East Auglaize Street. John was in the grocery business at the time. In 1876 they bought a commercial building on Auglaize Street and John was a manager of a beer saloon there. He also invested in the local real estate market, buying and selling town lots and farmland. John died in Wapakoneta from edema at the age of 52. He was survived by his wife, 6 children, and 2 grandchildren. John was a member of the St. Pauls German Lutheran Church in Wapakoneta.
