JOHN G.

TEN BRUMMELER

(July 6, 1934 to June 9, 2010)

Died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, as a result of cancer. Cherished husband and best friend of Josephine (Tipie) for 47 years. Wonderful Dad and father-in-law of Christine (John Chettleburgh) and Susie (Richard Emery). Most adored and adoring Grandaddy of Charlie, Christopher and Andrew Chettleburgh, and Matthew and Paige Emery. Beloved brother of Bert ten Brummeler and Diny Miller. John was born in Willemstad, Curaçao. His family moved back to The Hague, Netherlands in 1946 where he studied architecture before moving to Toronto in 1957. He founded the design/engineering firm Inservac, Ltd. in 1961, which eventually became Formglas Inc., an international manufacturer of architectural products that recently achieved its 49th anniversary. John had two passions in life: his family and his work. He often said he would be a failure as a retiree and felt fortunate to have been able to work full-time until four months ago. He loved nothing more than going on southern beach vacations in the winter with his family. Though we are heartbroken by the death of this bright, kind-hearted, modest and witty gentleman, we take solace in our memory of him with a slide rule in his hand, and a grandchild on his knee. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the family and friends who have given us much comfort over the past four months. A special thank you also goes to the staff at North York General Hospital, the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, the Toronto CCAC, and nurses Mitra Tehrani and Igal Vagudin. A Memorial Service to celebrate John's life will be held on Wednesday June 16th at 2:00pm at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Visitation Centre 375 Mt. Pleasant Road, Toronto (east gate entrance). In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made to The Redwood www.theredwood.com, a women and children's charity that John and Jo have supported for many years. On line condolences may be made at www.etouch.ca
