MILDRED C. BILLHEIMER, 96, of Huntington died in her home Sunday, August 8. She was born February 14, 1908, in Lorain, Ohio, one of eight children of Peter Stauder and Mary (Toll) Stauder. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Wayne M. Billheimer of Huntington. Mildred was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she served on the parish council and was a member of St. Ann's Circle and the Catholic Daughters of America. After bringing up her family, she taught for 15 years at Our Lady of Fatima grade school in Huntington. A creative and energetic craftsperson, Mildred was always busy and never happier than when she was producing paintings, quilts, needlework, and rugs with and for family and friends. At age 65, she and three friends formed the Happy Hookers, a group that produced exceptional rugs and wall hangings, and at age 95, after losing her right arm to cancer, she learned to paint left-handed so that she could continue her creative output. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, John and Carolyn Billheimer of Portola Valley, Calif.; Jim and Karen Billheimer of Huntington; Mary Jane and Dale Lewis of University Heights, Ohio; and Jeff and Lynda Billheimer of West Chester, Pa.; as well as 12 grandchildren: Wayne and Susan Billheimer; James, Megan, and Jayne Billheimer; Robert, William, David, and Daniel Lewis; and Doron, Ryan, and Aaron Billheimer; and four great-grandchildren. A rosary will be held at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, at Reger Funeral Home, followed by a visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 12, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father Paul Hudock. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Burke Foundation of Sacred Heart Parish or the American Cancer Society.
