WILLIAM "JAKE" ROACH

William Paul "Jake" Roach was born on August 21, 1921, at home in rural Russell, Iowa. Jake was the youngest of six children.

He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1938. After graduation he attended William Penn College. Jake married Betty Lou Gray on April 19, 1943 in Princeton, MO. They had three children, Jane, Tom and Mike.

During his lifetime his family lived in California and Arizona, before returning to make his home in Russell. He opened "Bill's Service" in 1970 and continued there until he retired in the early 90's. After retirement, Jake continued his hobbies, keeping busy all the time. He loved repairing his classic Corvairs and helping friends and neighbors with their repairs.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Betty; his parents, Tom and Minnie; his brother, Edmond "Doc"; sisters, Evelyn, Virginia and Mary Margaret; two sons, Tom and Mike.

He is survived by his sister, Ruth Roach; daughter, Jane Miller; niece Mary Kay Kaikkonen (Earl); and grandchildren, Jeff Miller, Jennifer Woods, Shelly Wilson, Bob Roach (Ann), Leslie Christensen (Chris), Brian Roach, Abraham Roach, Teresa Roach, and twelve great-grandchildren.

Jake shared many years with his long time companion, June Moore, along with her children, Jim Moore (Lori), Joe Moore (Cindy), and late Jerry Moore. Grandchildren Matt Moore, Mark Moore, Jeff Moore, Justin Fitzgerald, Erin Burmeister (Pete), Chris Schaefer (Sonya), Stephanie Jantz (Rod), Angie Shiver (Jake), Trisha Moore, Brian Moore, Mike Moore and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was fondly referred to by many as "Grandpa Jake" and will be missed by all.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2008, at the Fielding Funeral Home with Pastor Dan McNamara officiating. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.

Honorary bearers were Jeff Miller, Bob Roach, Leslie Christensen, Brian Roach, Shelly Wilson, Jennifer Woods, Abraham Roach, Teresa Roach, Jim Moore and Joe Moore.
