Magdalena Bott Obituary: Der Kirchenbote, Vol. 75 #1, 1 November 1956. Magdalene Henkel was born October 11, 1871 in Norka, Russia, a daughter of the married couple Louis Bott and Marie, nee Kniss. She was dedicated to the Lord in Holy Baptism while an infant and later confirmed. On February 14, 1895 she married Henry Henkel, who lost his life in an accident in 1940. The Henkel family came to Hastings, Nebraska in 1912 where they lived for eight years. In 1920, they came to Bayard, Nebraska. Through ambition, thrift and God's blessings, the family acquired a beautiful home. The Church Record book designates that she was a faithful and active church member. Sister Henkel seldom missed a prayer meeting. For her soul provider, she always had a friendly word. She lived with her son, Philipp, and his family the last 16 years. Here she was held in respect, and was provided the best of care. Completely unexpectedly, she entered her eternal rest of Believers on May 6, 1956 at age 84 years, 6 months and 24 days. She is survived by, in deep mourning, three sons, three daughters, a sister, Mrs. Louie Urbach; 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and many other relatives. With a large following, she was laid to rest at the cemetery. As a funeral text based on Philippians 3:20 "We are citizens of Heaven." May God of all comforts be with the survivors. J.E. Gebhardt, Pastor. Bayard, Nebraska
