He is the husband of first wife, Syntha Ann Butler Carter (She passed away young and I believe she is buried in McMinn County, Tennessee. They had 3 children. One died young believe to be buried in McMinn County, Tennessee too, one moved to Oklahoma and not sure what happened to the third.) He was married to second wife, Rebecca Wood Carter.

He first was buried at Brock's Cove Cemetery few miles away. He was reburied to Carter Cemetery after more and more of his family are buried at Carter Cemetery. He is buried behind his 2nd wife, Rebecca Wood Carter.

Many of his descendants continue to live in Sparta today.'Jack' was the youngest of 14 children. (His dad was the oldest of 14 children)

Was originally buried in cemetery in Brock's Cove----on the farm of H.C. Stonegist, behind the barn in a wooded area. Moved his family to White Co. TN around 1872.
According to family rumor, during the Civil War, he fought for the North. It is rumored that when he returned home, there was such hostility that he hid in a hollow log until arrangements to relocate his family could be made. He was said to be listed on the rolls in Cherokee, N.C. have no proof and not sure which roll.

William ( Jack) Carter was originally buried here in Brock's Cove; (This is where he lived in White County, Tennessee) but was later moved to Carter Cemetery in the Tollisontown Community (Sparta, White County, Tennessee). His son John Wesley Carter owned property near here. Jack Carter served in the 10th Tennessee Cavalry, Company K.
