Eugene Otto Koether, a lifelong resident of Poth, Texas, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at 6:53 a.m. in the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville at the age of 86 years, 9 months, and 20 days.
Eugene was born July 29, 1923, in Dewees, Wilson County, the son of George Fritz and Alvina Reininger Koether. He attended school and worked in agriculture sales for many years. Eugene married Doris Louise Klaus on June 4, 1947, in the United Reformed Evangelical Church of Three Oaks. Doris, Eugene's beloved wife of more than 50 years, preceded him in death on May 31, 2003. Eugene enjoyed working on his farm and in his garden. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Poth.
In addition to his wife, Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alvina Koether; his aunt and uncle, Emil and Elsa Koether; and his brother, Delmar Lee Koether.
Eugene is survived by his daughters, Diane Sandell and husband Jim of Ingram, Sherrill Campbell and husband Hugh of Hughestown, Pa., and Karen Dziuk and husband Aloys of Falls City; his grandchildren, Michelle Campbell, Aaron Dziuk, Dustin Dziuk and wife Kim, and Jessica Dziuk; his sister, Anita Albert of McCoy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 21, in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Poth.
The funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the St. John Lutheran Church in Poth, officiated by Kelly Tankersley, SAM.
Interment followed in the Dewees Cemetery in Wilson County. Serving as pallbearers were two grandchildren, Aaron Dziuk and Dustin Dziuk; and Kyle Harriman, Chad Harriman, Bert Casares, and Denis Kopecki.
