Michael Starker died at his home in the town of Bristol, Thursday afternoon, November 10, 1904 at the age of nearly 69 years.
He was born in Byron, Germany and came with his parents to the town of Bristol when eleven years of age. He lived in that town continuously until the time of his death. In 1862 he was married to Mary Ann Strohmenger and together they began life on the farm which is still the family home. Mr. Starker was the father of six sons and four daughters. Two sons died early in life.
Those surviving are Mrs. Frank Schuch of Benidji, MN; Mrs. Lawrence Foster of Hampden; George, John, Steve, Ernest, Charles and Helen living at home. Other surviving relatives are three brothers; Geo. of Medina and John and Adam of Bristol.
Michael Starker was a man of much native talent and although a farmer all his life, his mind had a natural bent toward business and from his early youth he was engaged in stock buying and other business enterprises among his farmer neighbors. He was several times elected to different town offices and was for many years a director in the Bristol Mutual Fire Insurance Company. He was a man of great physical endurance and in his lifetime underwent many hardships. He was prodigal of his health and strength and this fact brought him to an earlier grave than nature intended. Withal he may have had his faults, Michael Starker's honesty was never questioned; no one appealed to his charity to be refused. Probably no man in this section had a wider acquantance than he, and among them all he had not an enemy.
Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Church, East Bristol, Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment was also made at East Bristol.
