Hector O. Garcia, 85 a lifetime resident of Benavides, Texas was called home on Sunday, April 4, 2010 after a long illness. He was a WWII Navy Veteran serving in 13 campaigns as a gunners mate on the Battleship-USS Mississippi. He was retired from Federal Parks and Wild Life after 18 years of employment and was a rancher all of his life. He was a devout catholic, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Evengelina G Carrillo and a grandson, John Michael Cantu. Hector is survived by his wife of 63 years of marriage, Olivia O. Garcia of Benavides, Texas; his children, Anna Olivia Garcia of Harlingen, Texas; Mario Hector Garcia of Benavides, Texas; Luis A "Louie" (Rena B.) Garcia of Benavides, Texas; David Hugo (Sylvia) Garcia of San Benito, Texas; Debra Meta (Noel) Barrera of Lake Jackson, Texas; Elsa Marie (A.R.) Elizondo of Corpus Christi, Texas; Camille G. Villegas of Mission, Texas; one brother, Carlos Homero (Omedee) Garcia of San Diego, Texas; one sister, Maria Antonieta Garza of Benavides, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 PM on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the Garza Funeral Home (4571 S FM 1329) in San Diego, Texas with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM that same evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas. Military Graveside Services and Interment will follow at Garcia Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.
