Father Scheuer was born in Brainerd on February 2, 1932, to Eugene and Mary Scheuer.
He was ordained as a priest of the Diocese of Duluth by Bishop Laurence Glenn at the Cathedral of Our Lady in Duluth on June 7, 1959. Father Scheuer served parishes in Duluth, Cloquet, Virginia, Two Harbors, Hinckley and Beroun. He retired from pastoring the parishes in Ely and Babbitt in 2008. Father Scheuer was also involved in evangelization efforts in the dioceses as well as parish neighborhood renewal ministry. In his later years he worked with the Neo-Catechumenate community in Ely and at St. Lawrence Church in Duluth. Upon retirement in 2008, Father Scheuer resided at St. Joseph Church in Duluth Heights and assisted the parish there as well as St. Lawrence Church.
Father Jim, as he was affectionately called by many, was a much-sought-out spiritual director and counselor.
He is survived by his brother Robert, nieces, nephews, brother priests and deacons and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Father Ben Scheuer.
Burial in the clergy section of the Ely Cemetery.
