GUS J. MARTIN SERVICES HELD - FAILED TO RALLY FROM AN OPERATION PERFORMED TO SAVE HIS LIFE

Rites were conducted here Saturday afternoon for Gus J. Martin, 48, former resident of St. Ansgar, IA who died at the Sacred Heart hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin last Wednesday following an operation performed Monday.

Mr. Martin had been in ill health as a result of complications originating from an operation for appendicitis performed years ago. The second operation was performed in an effort to save his life but he failed to rally from the effects.

Following short services at the Gaal Funeral home in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Saturday morning, the body was brought here and services conducted at the home of his daughter Mrs. Walter Machacek at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Olaf A. Langehough in charge. Burial in the St. Ansgar[, Iowa] cemetery.

Mr. Martin was a resident of this community for more than thirty years. He was employed by Frank Sedlacek during most of his residence here. He was married to Miss Ella Boening on December 5, 1905. To this union six children were born, all of whom survive. They are: Wilmer, Alton, Florence, Evelyn and Agnes, all of Eau Claire and Mrs. Walter Machacek of St. Ansgar. His wife preceded him in death in 1918. In 1929, Mr. Martin went to Eau Claire where he had since resided.

His mother, 3 brothers and 2 sisters also survive. In addition to the children those from away who attended the services here were: Mrs. Herman Hilger, Mr. & Mrs. Peter Myren; Mr. & Mrs. Herbert Hilger; and Victor Martin, all of Eau Claire, and Miss Lyda Selmer of Chicago.
