Erich Herbert Heubach passed away peacefully on July 1, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA. Formerly of Spotswood, NJ, Erich lived in Gwynn's Island, VA, and The Villages, FL. Born in High Point, NC, on March 9, 1929, he spent his childhood in the U.S. and Germany. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, stationed in Germany as a second lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps. He joined the NJ Army National Guard, served for 31 years, and retired with the rank of colonel. Erich commanded both the 50th Armored Division Support Command and the 50th Armored Division Artillery. He also commanded the 112th FA Regt and the 112th FA Association. His impressive military achievements earned the respect and ultimate admiration of his fellow soldiers. He had a 35-year career with Public Service Electric and Gas Company in New Brunswick and Newark, NJ. Erich will be remembered for his integrity, kindness, generosity and his ability to make everyone feel at ease. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Eleanor Helen; his son, Alfred and wife, Merrill, of Nova Scotia, and son, Gary of Texas; his brother, Rudolf and wife, Ingrid, of Virginia; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Hildegard Cavanaugh and husband, Tom; brother-in-law, Peter Schmidtke and wife, Bonnie; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. A graveside memorial service will be held in Blawenburg Church Cemetery, Route 518 and 601, Blawenburg, NJ
