Ed was born to the parents of Stanley and Sara Glod Wiatr. Ed's sisters (Estelle and Monica predeceased him.) He was joined in marriage to Helen T. Miga, a blessed union of over 55 years, on November 27, 1948. Ed attended Whitesboro Central Schools. During his youth, he developed a love for golf and turned professional at the age of 18. His career was briefly interrupted through military service with the HQ's Detachment 389 Military Police Battalion (Normandy, France.) He was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Sergeant in April 1946. While serving overseas he earned the EAME Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He subsequently used his G.I. Bill to pursue undergraduate studies and received a B.S. in Business Administration (Public Accounting) and too, a B.S. degree in Political Science from Syracuse University. His acceptance into law school was deferred because of his pursuit as a professional golfer, a career that spanned some 65 years. His golfing career earned him many, many golfing titles throughout the Northeastern United States and Canada. He frequently played the Jenny Open, Bangor Maine Open, Mohawk Open and others too numerous to mention. He qualified and played in the 1964 U.S. Open held at the Congressional Country Club, Maryland. His course record of 59 at Twin Ponds Golf Course, New York Mills, New York still holds to this very date. His ability to hit a long ball with such ease and exactness was a testament to his knowledge and skill in his pursuit of a professional golfing career. Concurrently honing his golfing skills, he worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring after some 35 years of public service. Additionally, he used his acquired undergraduate skills and served as Treasurer, Village of New York Mills, and retired with distinction with 37 years of public service. Ed was active as both a member and Executive Officer of the Saint Stanislaus B.M. Society (Union Hall) and served as their Executive Director. He was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, U.S.A., Ed Bator Post #21. Ed found time to enjoy hunting, trapping, and fishing. His winter months spent in the cold outdoors were met with vigor and long walks (with his sons) sharing nature's wonders of the outdoors. Up until the last week of his death, he routinely took both morning and evening trips with his son, Ed, in the North Country and then enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, lunch, or an occasional martini (shaken not stirred.)
