Obituary: Cleveland Daily Banner, Feb 25, 1987, pg. 2:
Mrs. Abbie Elizabeth Helton, 96, a resident of Old Fort, died Tuesday morning in a Copperhill hospital. A life-long resident of Polk County, she was the oldest living member of the Ball Play Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Dave and Lottie Taylor who were pioneer settlers of Polk County. Survivors include six daughter; Mrs. Laura Martin of Cleveland, Mrs. Winnie Mantooth, Mrs. Clela Mason and Mrs. Stella Wilcoxon, all of Old Fort and Mrs. Oma Waters and Mrs. Alene Woody, both of Cleveland; two sons; Willie Helton of Cincinnati, Ohio and Kenneth Helton of Cleveland: 46 grandchildren; 38 great-granchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Parlie Wilcoxon of Old Fort; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be conducted Friday at 11 a. m. at the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Homes with The Rev. Jack James and the Rev Arthur Scoggins officiating. Interment will be in the Ball Play Baptist Church cemetery. The family is currently receiving friends at the funeral home.
