Arthur H. Davis was born September 12 1919 and died May 12, 1944. He registered for the U.S. Army at Camp Blanding, FL on 18 May 1942 and had attained the rank of staff sergeant when he died. Arthur died at the Battle of Monte Cassino, also known as the Battle for Rome, near the town of Cassino, Italy. The Allied Forces had to break through the "Gustav Line" held by the Germans in order to advance and secure the city of Rome. This battle began May 11, 1944 and Arthur died May 12 in one of the deadliest battles of WWII. He was the son of Hampton and Leah Ellen Davis who are also buried in Nathalene Cemetery in Hilliard.
