"Eleanor Mary "Ella" Schiltz was born December 22, 1906, in Bancroft, daughter of Frank and Kate (Funke) Vaske. Her family farmed southeast of Bancroft and later moved into town, where she attended St. John Catholic School. Ella worked for several area families and the Bancroft Register. Ella married Arnold M. Schiltz on February 17, 1931 at St. John's Catholic Church, Bancroft. They farmed near Bancroft until 1969, when they moved into town. Ella enjoyed dancing, playing cards, gardening, and especially loved spending time with her family and quilting. She made a quilt for all 46 of her grandchildren. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the St. John's Altar Society. Ella entered the Heritage Nursing Home in Bancroft in February, 1999. She died there Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at the age of 97...."
