Dr. Steven Gross was a lifetime learner, doing research and teaching students. He enjoyed listening to music, fly fishing, baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs, and traveling. Steve was a member of the alumni associations of the University of Utah and the University of South Carolina. He was also a member of the Linguistics Society of America. He was devoted to his research in sociolinguistics; he was a world authority on Schmiedshau German and the process of language loss.
