Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until September 16, 1943, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.

Son of Mrs. Louise Spiro who resided in Hartford, Connecticut during the war.

Otto served as a Aviation Ordnanceman Third Class, U.S.S. Wasp (CV-7), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in New York prior to the war.

The U.S.S. Wasp, while supporting the invasion of Guadalcanal, was hit by three torpedo's from Japanese submarine I-19 southeast of San Cristobal Island. 193 crewmen were either killed or missing and 366 were wounded during the attack.

Otto was declared "Missing In Action" in this attack during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
