Raymond F. Fox joined the U.S. Army while being a resident in Nassau County, FL. He moved up the ranks and soon was Technical Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps, and he saw combat with the 860th Bomber Squadron and 493rd Bomber Group, Heavy. His was KIA on a mission over Germany. Besides being a recipient of a Purple Heart, he received many other Army Awards including The Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, which mean he had at least 10 successful bombing missions.

Since he was a resident of Nassau County, FL at the time enlistment, his name is on the Nassau County War Memorial. Most of his family remained in his hometown of Callaway, Bay Co., FL and are buried in the Callaway Cemetery there. His brother Pvt.James Vernon Fox, a Bronze Star Recipient of WWII, came home and much later, was buried with the parents.
