We note with regret the death of an old Texan, W. G. Winkleman, who had resided in the state for 50 years, having come to it when he was about 24 years old.  He was in the confederate army with Green’s command and a part of the time was engaged in hauling cotton to Mexico.  He was a brother-in-law of Gen. George Herder, who was with Gen. Houston in the war for Texas independence.  He left seven children, all grown, three boys and four girls, to mourn his loss.  He died of slow fever at his ranch in Falls county Monday night at 12 o’clock and was laid to rest at Barclay Wednesday where he will sleep till the last trump shall call him to account for the deeds done in this life.  We extend our sympathy to the afflicted family and friends.
