Leo Everett Schmelz, 83, Corydon, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at Robley Rex V.A. Medical Center in Louisville.

Born July 2, 1927, in Harrison County, he was the son of the late Aloysius and Mary Grace Miller Schmelz.

He was a farmer and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon.

Survivors include his wife, the former Ruby Brown; five sons, Dennis Schmelz of New Salisbury, Anthony and Terry Schmelz, both of Corydon, Dale Schmelz of Depauw and Gregory Schmelz of Columbus; three daughters, Cindy Brunner of Ramsey, Pamela Schmelz of Corydon and Monica Davis of Floyds Knobs; three brothers, Father Damian Schmelz of St. Henry, Ed Schmelz of Lexington, Ky., and Frank Schmelz of New Albany; and 20 grandchildren.

Visitation: Thursday, Aug. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 13, from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 14, after 8 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.

Rosary service: Friday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral Mass: Saturday, Aug. 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon with burial in the church cemetery.

Celebrants: Father Damian Schmelz and Father Rob Hankee.

Pallbearers: Corey and Tyler Brunner, Nicholas, Clayton and Damian Schmelz, Ethan Davis and Harrison Wood.

He died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville.
Visitation will be at the Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Homes, Corydon, from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, and after 8 a.m. Saturday.
