Frances Caroline (Slater) Borgheiinck, age 83, of 705 S. Third St.,Milbank, S.D., died Friday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2009, at Milbank Area
Hospital - Avera Health.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Caroline will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Milbank. Father Ken Lulf
will be the celebrant.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 5-7
p.m. followed by rosary at 7 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home.

Casket bearers will be grandchildren: Mike Reiprich, Marshall Lundborg, Jay Rumpca, Tony Borgheiinck, Mark Pibal, and Doug Pibal. Burial will take place in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Milbank.

Music will be provided by Nancy Johnson, organist; the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir; Stacey Borgheiinck, vocalist; and Sue Sykora, vocalist.

She was born Frances Caroline Slater on Dec. 10, 1925, near Hettinger,N.D., a daughter of the late Bernard and Frances (Jacobs) Slater. She
attended country school in Duck Creek Township near Hettinger, N.D., and one year of high school in Hettinger.

On Sept. 25, 1944, Caroline was united in marriage to Martin Clemens Borgheiinck at St. Mary Catholic Church in Beardsley, Minn.

The couple farmed north of Beardsley from 1944-62, then moved to a farm near Ortley, S.D., on Sept. 25, 1962, until the farm was sold and they
semi-retired June 1, 1978, when they moved to Milbank.

Along with her husband as janitor, Caroline was janitress at Central United Methodist Church, Milbank, for 12 1/2 years until June 1995.

She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank.

Caroline loved to garden and experimented with different varieties of shrubs, trees and plants. She also enjoyed sewing, and was an avid collector
of salt and pepper shakers.

Survivors are her husband, Martin; four sons: Victor (Linda), Fargo, N.D..; Ervin of Dickinson, N.D.; Wayne of Watertown, S.D. and Dennis (Athenia), Fairmont, W.Va.; four daughters: Patricia (Thomas) Pibal, Sheboygan Falls, Wis.; Lucille Speidel, Aberdeen, S.D.; Anita Reiprich, Webster, S.D. and Catherine (Loren) Rumpca, Coon Valley, Wis.; 22
grandchildren, one step grandson, 10 great-grandsons, five great-granddaughters, one step great-grandson and two step great-granddaughters; four sisters: Margaret Borgheiinck, Randall, Minn.;
Agnes Paul, Lemmon, S.D.; Lorraine (Mike) Kuntz, Harding, Mont. and Loretta Grossnickle, Portland, Ore.; four brothers: John Slater of California;
Arthur (Billie) Slater, Ft. Worth, Texas; Dr. Donald Slater, Scottsdale, Ariz. and James (Betty) Slater, Bristow, Va.; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Sally Slater, Hettinger, ND; Mary Stallman, Richard Borgheiinck, and Kathleen Borgheiinck, all of Browns Valley, Minn.; Julia Billiet, Osseo, Minn.; Elizabeth and Tony Pelzer, Cold Spring, Minn.; Clara and Eldred Schriefels, St. Cloud, Minn.; Betty Borgheiinck, Lindstrom, Minn.; Catherine Rausch, Long Prairie, Minn. and Clarence Borgheiinck, Winthrop, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Bernard, Paul and Martin Slater; son-in-law, Luverne Speidel; numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law; relatives and friends.
