Helen Dehner

Helen Marie Dehner, 89, of Burlington died at 4:25 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Burlington.

Born July 12, 1921, in Carmen(sic), Ill., she was the daughter of Henry C. and Vera C. Campbell Dehner.

Ms. Dehner worked 30 years at American Optical Co. and 10 years at Des Moines County Credit Bureau. She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church in Burlington and of St. Francis Auxiliary. She volunteered at Des Moines County Historical Society, including work at Apple Tree Museum and Phelps House. She collected Burlington history articles and was the family historian. She enjoyed needlework, quilting, gardening, music, playing cards and collecting coins and stamps.

Survivors include eight nieces, Rita Harnish, Jeanne Davis, Joanne Nafzger, Diana Ramsden, Donna Muhleman, Darlene Fox, Mary Ann Gooding and Susan Sanford; and four nephews, Dennis Dehner, Tim Dehner, Ben Dehner and Carl Gooding.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one in infancy, three sisters, one half-sister and one nephew.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington where the family will receive friends following the rosary recitation at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Ms. Dehner will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church in Burlington with the Rev. Anthony Herold officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington.

Memorials have been established for SS. John & Paul Catholic Church, Notre Dame High School and Great River Hospice.
