Klinkert, John A.

John A. Klinkert, of Appleton, age 90, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2005, at Cherry Meadows Hospice. He was born April 30, 1915, in Milwaukee, son of the late John P. and Elsie (Manteufel) Klinkert. He married Margaret Hoesterman May 25, 1940, in Milwaukee sharing 63 years together before her death July 29, 2003. He owned and operated Kitchens by Klinkert & Bath Boutique for 18 years until his retirement in 1986. Together with his father and brother he owned and operated Klinkert's Candy Company in Milwaukee prior to moving to Appleton. He was a member and past president of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Institute of Kitchen Dealers; an active member in the National Kitchen and Bath Association; a member of the Appleton Noon Time Kiwanis; volunteered his time to the Jefferson and Huntley Schools as a reading helper, to the Fox Cities Children's Museum and also volunteered his time and talents to Columbus School. In the 1930s he was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard 104th Cavalry unit.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jim Winters, St. Paul; three sons and daughters-in-law: John and Caron Klinkert, Seattle, WA; Thomas and Jeanne Klinkert, Hattiesburg, MS; James and Joanne Klinkert, Appleton; a sister, Laverne Smith, Milwaukee; five grandchildren: Thomas and Heather Klinkert; Julie and Tom Selof, Jeffrey Klinkert, Brenda Rae Klinkert, Laura Klinkert; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Margaret Klinkert.

Services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2005, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel with the Roger Bertschausen officiating. Friends may call directly at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to Fox Cities Children's Museum or the Northeast Wisconsin Land Trust.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. James Haine and the entire staff at The Heritage, Peabody Manor and Theda Care Hospice.
