Mrs. Margaretha Stober, wife of Joseph Stober, died in her home in Remsen Tuesday, June 11, at the age of 58 years and 7 months, after an illness of several years. Deceased was a native of Germany and came to this country many years ago, locating Dubuque county. Eleven years ago she came with her husband to Plymouth county, locating on a farm near Remsen. During the last years Mr. and Mrs. Stober resided in Remsen. Mr. Stober mourns the loss of a good and highly respected wife. Their union was blessed with nine children, of whom six are living. The funeral of Mrs. Stoeber was from St. Mary's church last Wednesday, Rev. Father Heinzelmeier officiating. A large concourse of friends and relatives of the mourning family attended.

Joseph Stoeber (1834-1911) married Maria Margretha MEINHART (1842-1901) 7 Dec 1858 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, IA with the Rev. James Orth officiating. Witnesses were Jacob Walhelm and Maria Angela Rohenkohl.
[Maria's parents were Jacob MEINHART (1799-1867) and M. Angela GUNKEL (1815-)]
Children: George (1861-1941) (Possibly named after Joseph's father, John George Bernard Stoeber (1801-) m. Mary Adelheit EILERS (1862-1931); [It's possible to conclude that the second of nine children was born between 1861 and 1871 in either Hazel Green, WI or Petersburg, IA...]; Catherine (1871-1921) m. Bernard MAI (1870-1958); Charles Joseph (1873-) m. Elizabeth RICHELS (1882-); John Henry (1876-1876); Rosalia Sophia (1878-1956) m. Henry BUNKERS; Ursula Marie Anna (1880-1880); Clara Margaret (1881-1967) m. Edward Eugene FEIGEN 1873-1925); John Henry (1884-) m. Alma Marie THOMPSON (1885-1964).

*1860 Federal Census found Joseph Stoeber & wife, Margaret living in the town of Benton, Wisconsin, LaFayette County, P.O. Hazel Green. Joseph, a minor, was age 25, born in Prussia. Wife, Margaret age 19, born in Prussia. [ The couple were married in New Vienna, IA, Delaware County, in 1858. They must have moved to Wisconsin by 1860 where Joseph found work as a miner. Interestingly, living right next door to them is George Minehart, age 50, with wife Algarata, age 30, and 4 daughters - not sure there is any connection...]

*1870 Federal Census found Joseph Stober & wife, Margaret, and son, George, living in Colony Township, Delaware County, Iowa, P.O. Earlville. Joseph, a farmer, age 40, born in Prussia, was a US citizen. Wife, Margaret, age 28, keeping house, born in Prussia. Son, George, age 9, born in Wisconsin, at home.

*1880 Federal Census found Joseph Stober & family living in Colony Township, Delaware County, Iowa where Joseph was a farmer, age 47, and born in Prussia along with his parents. Wife, Margaret, keeps house, age 39, and born in Prussia along with her parents. George works on the farm, age 17, was born in Wisconsin. Katy, at home, age 9 was born in Iowa, along with brother, Joseph, Jr., age 5, and Sophia, age 1.
