Green-Wood Cemetery

These joined lots were purchased at the same time, suggesting a relationship between the UNGER and TREISS families, which is not explained by any of the inscriptions. However, there is evidence in the 1855 census that Elisabeth Treiss was the daughter of John and Mary Unger, and therefore, the sister of the younger John Unger (1829-1903). It is significant that the small stone that appears in the background astride both lots is that of John and Mary Unger. They are the parents of John Unger (Lot 15490, the UNGER lot, at left), and Elisabeth Treiss (Lot 15491, the TREISS/PAGAN lot, at right).
