Herbert R. Karner was born June 5, 1915 in Coyle, Oklahoma the son of Rudolph and Elma (Meyer) Karner. Herbert died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at his home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He was 95 years of age. Herbert was a 1934 graduate of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma High School. He attended Oklahoma A & M and received his Bachelors Degree in Journalism from the University of Tulsa. He married the former Miss Ruth Della Bredehoeft on January 1, 1938 in Broken Arrow. She preceded him in death on December 17, 1999. Herbert served as a Major in the United States Army Air Corp. He was an editor for the Tulsa World, retiring in 1990. His entire lifetime, from the age of 14, he lived in Broken Arrow. He was an avid reader, enjoyed painting and being involved with his Car Club. He was a member of Tulsa Farm Club, past president of the National Farm Editors Association and a Distinguished Alumni of Oklahoma A & M. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He is survived by his daughter, Valarie Ann and husband Terry Kolkmann, Broken Arrow, OK; son, Gary Karner, Royce City, TX; daughter in law, Janet Karner, Perkins, OK; grandchildren, Chad, Ryan, Kara, LaDonna, Kerry, Kevin, Nicole, Cameron and Logan; great grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Sara, Ayden and Ruthie; and sister in law, Laverne Karner, Ft. Worth, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Donald and Kenneth; his brother, Albert; and a grandson, Bradley.
