July 20, 1879 An Interesting Picture of the Wallabout Road and Surrounding Scenes 50 years ago -
"Passing along the road and on the same side and near the location of Clermont avenue was the Mansion of Jeremiah V. Spader. Mr. Spader died about 1838 and was buried in the family plot, which was located about where Hamilton street and Park avenue intersect, and in the immediate neighborhood of Higgins' soap factory. His remains were afterward removed to Greenwood."
