THE EAGLE GROVE EAGLE, Eagle Grove, IA, Thursday, Feb. 5, 1920:
OLE HELGEVOLD DEAD
Just as we go to press we learn of the death of Ole Helgevold, from near Holmes. Influenza was the cause.

GOLDFIELD CHRONICLE, Goldfield, IA, Feb. 5, 1920:
Ole Helgevold Gives Up
Ole Helgevold was forced to give up and passed away at his home near Holmes on Tuesday of this week. He was much improved, his fever had broken and his temperature was down to normal but his intense activity would not allow him to be quiet. He would not stay in bed and take care of himself. As a result he suffered a relapse and in a few short hours was dead.

THE MONITOR, Clarion, IA, Wednesday, February 11, 1920:
O.H. Helgevold after battling about two weeks with influenza was forced to give up the struggle and passed away at his home one mile northwest of Holmes, Tuesday evening, February 3. A private funeral was held at the residence Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. Sponde of Eagle Grove and the remains laid to rest in the Holmes Cemetery. O.H. Helgevold was born in Norway, Europe, May 14, 1874, and came to this country with his parents, settling at Eagle Grove, IA. In 1900, he was united in marriage to Miss Rose Richardson of Eagle Grove, and soon thereafter moved to his farm near Holmes, which place he occupied until his taking away. To this union were born seven children, six of whom survive. Raymond the oldest boy being nearly nineteen years old, and the youngest a little girl nearly two years old. (Note by Jan Helgevold Sorenson: This should have said the youngest a little boy.) Beside his wife and children he leaves three brothers and two sisters to mourn his untimely death. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved family in their sorrow.
We wish to thank our neighbors and friends for the many kindnesses shown us during our recent illness, and for the many expressions of sympathy that have been given in our bereavement over the loss of (our) husband and father. Mrs. O.H. Helgevold and children.
