George Henry Petershagen
Oct. 26, 1916 - Jan. 25, 2003
Third child of Henry and Clara Petershagen, George H. Petershagen died early Saturday morning. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church since his baptism in December 1916. He was a 1934 graduate of Everett High School and life-long resident of the area, the only major interruption of his local residency being his World War II service in the U.S. Army. He was a partner with brother, Alvin, in the local real estate and insurance firm H. H. Petershagen and Sons, from which they both retired in 1982.
George was an active participant in the community. Through the Jaycees he promoted local business development and was a strong advocate for expansion of Everett's city limits. He held various offices in both the Everett Realty Board and Snohomish County Association of Insurance Agents. Active membership in VFW Post 2100 and the American Legion took him across the state, as did his support of Seagull, Bruin and Trojan athletic teams. He also participated in PROBUS and was especially proud of his association with the members of "Everett's oldest coffee klatch", an ad hoc group that began in the 1920s.
He was strongly supported in all of his endeavors by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Margaret. She survives as do their sons and their wives, George F. and Barbara, Herb and Carol, Bob, and Gary and Jeanne. Other surviving family members include sister-in-law, Irma Petershagen and Margaret's twin sister Elizabeth and her husband, Frank Lindberg. In addition he is survived by five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alvin, sister Margaret, and granddaughter Elizabeth Margaret.
George has requested that those who desire to do so make memorial donations to Trinity Lutheran Church, Hospice of Snohomish County, or Everett Gospel Mission in lieu of flowers.
A private graveside service will be held at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park. Family and friends of George and Margaret are invited to visit at the family home the afternoon of Tuesday, January 28, 2003.
Arrangements were under the direction of Purdy & Walters Funeral Home.
