Walter Essig, 67, lifetime resident of Germantown township died Tuesday of last week at the Redwood Falls hospital. He had been suffering from asthma for several years.
Mr. Essig was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Essig, Germantown. He was married to Lydia Nickel, who died in 1921. There are three children, Mrs. Walter Becker of South St. Paul, her twin, Alvin, at the home place, and Mrs. Jerome Lenzen of Tracy.
Two brothers, Reuben and Herman Essig, Sanborn, and two sisters, Mrs. George Blank and Mrs. Rose Ann Nordby, Minneapolis, also survive.
Mr. Essig was active in the Red Rock Evangelical United Brethren Church where he was Sunday school superintendent for many years.
Services were Friday at 2 p.m. from the Red Rock EUB church with Rev. E. H. Pfeifer officiating. Singers were Mrs. Warren Pankonin and Mrs. Arnold Kansanback, Mrs. Robert Creighton was pianist. Pallbearers were Willard Block, Vance DeLong, Leonard Essig, Bernett Nickel, LaMoine Nickel and Gerald Karow. Interment was in the church cemetery. --Lamberton News 7 July 1961
