Art was born in Toronto, Canada, to Arthur and Emma Maass. The family relocated to Glendale, Calif., where Art assisted his father in his produce business.

Art graduated from Glendale High School and joined the United States Navy in 1942. He proudly served his country aboard an AKA, or Attack Cargo Ship.

After the service, Art briefly worked for Hostess Cake and then settled into a position with Franz Bakery for 36 years.

Art is survived by his wife, Lou Ann; children James, John, and Robert; stepchildren Terry Weiler, Diane Raiden, Sue (Tom) Scherf and Char (Larry) Kime; brother, Eddie; sister, Betty both of California; countless grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a wonderful extended family, which was a blessing to him in his final fifteen years of life.

Art was a proud member of the Keizer Elk's and was baptized on April 10, 2003, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Silverton.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church, or a favorite charity.
