Longtime Cook resident dies
Cook-(N-P)- Fred Henry Poope, 92, died early Tuesday at the Johnson County Hospital.
He had been ill three weeks. He had been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Paul Neeman.
Funeral services will be Friday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ at 2 p.m. The Rev. Herbert Kuhn will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was born January 6, 1873, near Bremen, Ohio, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Poppe. He came to Nebraska and the Cook community as a young man. On April 6, 1899, he was married to Lesetta Halm, who preceded him July 5, 1936.
The couple farmed west of Cook. After the death of his wife, he lived with his with his children and for a number of years spent the summer farming in Kansas.
He was the oldest member of the church at Cook, having served on the church council and on various committees of the church. He also served on the school board and was active on civic committees.
Survivors include his five children, Mrs. Edith Niemann, Cook, Otto of Grant, Walter of Cook, Mrs. Mildred Neemann, Mrs. Frieda Niemann, all of Cook, three sons-in-law, August Niemann, Paul Neemann, and Wilbur Niemann, two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Otto and Walter Poppe, 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death also by several sisters and brothers, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
