S. W. Nay Dies In Glenwood; Was Pioneer
Funeral services for Samuel W. Nay, pioneer resident of Routt county, will be held this afternoon at Oak Creek. Mr. Nay died Monday at Glenwood Springs. He was born at Phillipsburg, Kan., Aug. 30, 1877. The services were at the Methodist Church in Oak Creek with the Rev. Donald Gorham officiating. Interment was in the Oak Creek
cemetery. For many years Mr. Nay operated ranch properties in Routt county and was known as one of the most progressive ranchers and livestock growers in the area. He also operated a meat market and grocery store here for many years. Mr . Nay came to Steamboat Springs in 1903 from the Cripple Creek district and purchased the Altman market which he, his father and brother operated for some time. He was in the market business in several different locations until Agust[sic] 1918 when he and his family moved to a Pleasant Valley ranch which he operated for many years. He was married in January, 1907, to Josephine Bartz. The Bartz operated a bakery and hotel here in the early days. Survivors include his widow, one son, Samuel W. Jr., of Paocima, Calif. two daughters, Miss Aorma Nay of Los Angeles and Mrs. Bonita Herold of Oak Creek, and one brother, Will Nay of Steamboat Springs.
