Frank Oreke Killed.

Found Dead Sunday Morning at His Home Shot Near the Heart.

This community was thrown into excitement last Sunday morning when the news was brought to town that Frank Oreke, who lived on the Old Ray place southeast of the city had been found dead in his yard with a bullet near the heart, showing what had caused death. It appears that Mr. Jarvis, a near neighbor went to Frank's place about 8 o'clock Sunday morning to get a horse when he discovered Frank lying about three feet from the northeast corner of the house. It is said when he was first discovered that he opened his eye and moved his hand once. Dr. Thrailkill was at once notified by telephone of the finding of the body and he told them to carry the body into the house and place it on the bed which was done and Dr. arrived an hour later but Frank was dead when he got there. He was found lying on his arm face downward as he fell. In the house his gun was lying across a chair unloaded. On the floor were several empty shells. In the door were a number of bullet holes, said to have been eight from the inside to outside and one from the outside. The door also shows that some heavy substance had been thrown against it. When found Frank was clad in his pants and slippers with no coat or hat on. The neighbors were notified by phone and sonn a large number were present. The coroner of Grant county was notified and came at once to the scene with a deputy sheriff. An inquest was held on Monday at Renfrow and after taking the testimony the jury returned a verdict that the deceased came to his death by the hands of parties unknown. The deceased was the son of Mrs. Mary Oreke, and he was born on the old farm northeast of this city, and was in his twenty-eight year at the time of his death. He was single and lived alone on the ranch. Last Saturday he hauled some corn to this city and also a load to Dan Wiley at Drury. The funeral services were held at the M.E. church in this city, Tuesday at 11 o'clock a.m., conducted by Rev. B.F. Whicker, of the city and Rev. F.M. Calame of Renfrow. The remains were laid to rest in the city cemetery. Those of the relatives present at the funeral were Mrs. Mary Oreke, Herman Oreke and Charles Oreke and Miss Katy, of Wichita, Mr. and Mrs. John Oreke, of Grant county and Mrs. Graham and children, of Kingfisher, Okla.
