James "Jim" Earl Smith passed away on Sept. 24, 2010 at his home in Claypool, Ariz. Jim was born in Miami, Ariz. on July 30, 1927 and he spent his entire life in the Globe-Miami area.

Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a Marine to the core. Jim was a Machinist by trade and worked for Miami Copper Company. Jim retired from Miami Copper as a Foreman in 1986 and went on to his "second career" at Pinal Lumber Company.

Jim is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Betty Jane Smith; his parents, Claud and Ola Smith; and his brother, Windell Smith.

He is survived by his brother, Richard J. Smith; his children, Thomas Smith and Debra Carrizosa; his grandchildren, Nichole Oblinger and Jessica Smith; and his great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jenny Oblinger.

"Pa, just like a Marine, you were always faithful – we will miss you. Semper Fi."

Graveside services for Jim will be held at the Pinal Cemetery on Oct. 9, 2010 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the local VFW.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Miles Funeral Services Globe.
