Services for Evelyn Harms, 84, were held Monday, Aug. 3, 1998 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Evelyn Harms died Thursday, July 30, 1998 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness.
Evelyn R. Rieken was born Jan. 10, 1914 in Wayne Township, Jones County, the daughter of William Tobias and Gesena Helena Hayen Rieken. She received her education in Wayne Township School #9.
Evelyn R. Rieken and George H. Harms were married June 20, 1934 at the Wayne Zion Church. The couple farmed in Wayne Township until Dec. 13, 175 when they retired and moved to Monticello. He died on Aug. 20, 1978.
Survivors include a daughter, LaVonne (Phillip) Owen of Monticello; two grandchildren, Janelle (Todd) Jones of Cedar Rapids and Jeffrey (Kim) Owen of Monticello; six great-grandchildren, Bryana, Chelsea and Alyssa Jones, Tyler, Spencer and Sydney Owen; a brother, Larry Rieken of Cascade: and a sister, Dorothy (Dale) Marshall of Rolling Meadows, Ill.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister-in-law, Ruth Rieken.
Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of arrangements.
