Mrs. Annie Virginia Asbell Darnell, 69, of East Broadmore Road, died yesterday at 6:15 a.m. after a brief illness. She was stricken earlier and died en route to King’s Daughters Hospital, Portsmouth.
She was a native of Hertford, N.C., and had resided in the Norfolk and Portsmouth section 50 years. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William J. Asbell.
She is survived by her husband, James H. Darnell, Portsmouth; three daughters, Mrs. E. E. Paul, Mrs. Josephine Jefferson, both of Norfolk, and Mrs. E. H. Bush, of Portsmouth; two sons, W. B. Fanshaw and J. W. Curling, both of Norfolk; one sister, Miss Henrietta Asbell, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The body was removed to the Sykes Funeral Home where funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park.
