Bobby Lee Estergard age 81, of Callaway, was relieved of his struggle with Alzheimers, and went to be with the Lord on Saturday October 16, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center in Callaway.
Bob was born December 16, 1928 at Callaway, NE to Crist and Hilder (Anderson) Estergard as the youngest in a set of triplets, including his sisters, Betty Lou and Bonny Jean. The novelty of triplets in that era attracted many visitors, as well as the interest of several newspapers and magazines. The triplets were accomplices in mischief and kept a special bond throughout their lives.
Bob was drafted to the Army near the end of the Korean War. During his military service, Bob made several friendships he maintained throughout the rest of his life. Following his military service, Bob remained active in the Callaway American Legion Post for many years, serving as adjutant and participating in color guard.
On April 22, 1959, Bob married Gayle Johnson of Fairbury, Nebraska. The couple made their home on the family farm southeast of Callaway, until moving into Callaway in 2005. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before Bob's passing. Bob and Gayle were blessed with three sons, Richard, Alan, and Brent. Richard and Alan joined in helping manage the farm, particularly as Bob neared retirement.
Bob and Gayle enjoyed gardening every summer, and Bob's annual efforts to increase the size of the garden were surpassed only by his generosity in sharing the fruits of their labor with friends and neighbors.
Along with gardening, Bob held a passion for music. In later years, Bob was joined by his son Brent in an occasional duet at church. Bob's faith was also very important to him, and brought him a great deal of comfort as his health deteriorated. Bob was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Callaway throughout his life.
Bob was devoted to his family. He frequently entertained his many nieces and nephews, and was always willing to support and encourage their efforts. Bob was a role model to many – though he was soft-spoken, he led by example. Bob especially enjoyed seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and welcomed every opportunity to spend time with them.
Bob's caring for youth let him to be an active leader in the 4-H program for many years. Bob was a fixture at the beef show of the Custer County Fair for two decades. He also supported the efforts of the Nebraska Hereford association and hosted tour stops on the annual tour on several occasions. Bob invested generously of his time and energy in the future of his family and community.
Bob is survived by his wife Gayle of Callaway, sons Richard (Cyndi-Lou) Estergard of Callaway, Alan (Kelli) Estergard of Callaway, Brent and friend Ben Adis of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren Stephanie (Heath) Paulsen of Oconto, Melissa (Jesse) Pandorf of Pearland, TX, Matt Markham of Omaha, Justin Estergard of Council Bluff, IA, and Dylan Ramsey of Garner, PA; and three great grandchildren Kaden and Conner Paulsen, and Grant Pandorf. Bob is also survived by brothers-in-law Bob Jarvis of Omaha, and Martin Achterberg of Lexington.

Visitation was held Tuesday 8 am to 1 pm at Govier Bros. Mortuary and 4 pm to 7 pm at the United Methodist Church in Callaway with the family greeting friends. Govier Bros.
