He attended grade school in Denmark and a trade school for apprentice blacksmiths.
At the age of 18, in 1909, he came to the United Stated, living in South Dakota and then, Knox County, residing in Winnetoon since 1916.
He married Lizzie B. Jensen May 12, 1916 at Christ Lutheran Church, five children were born to them.
He was a blacksmith his entire life until retiring in 1959 because of ill health.
His survivors include his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Hans (LaVeve) Bonnesen of Verdigre; two sons. Lt. Col. Merlin H. Andersen in Seoul, Korea and Delmar Andersen of Winnetoon; 12 grandchildren and one brother, Walter S. Andersen of Creighton.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two infant daughters, two sisters and five brothers.
