Staff Sgt. Jordan B. Emrick, 26, of Hoyleton, Ill., died Nov. 5 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif. He is survived by his parents, Terry and Doris Seeger Emrick of Cynthiana, KY., a brother; Brandon (Kimberly) Emrick of Hoyleton, 2 sisters; Christi (Ryan) Payne and Brittany (Anthony) Aussieker both of Evansville, IN. His grandmother; Edith Seeger of Hoffman and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 2002. Jordan had been planning to study pharmacy, and instead joined the service. He was an explosives expert, a job he was proud of, and had left Oct. 10 for a seven-month stint in Afghanistan. It was his third deployment.
