Keith was born on June 25, 1944, in Mount Hope, the son of Orville and Mildred (Noth) Stender.

Keith grew up and graduated from Boscobel High School and was then drafted into the U.S. Army.

He served in Vietnam from June 23, 1965, until being honorable discharged on June 22, 1967.

Upon returning home, Keith married Sandra Stivarius on Jan. 28, 1967, in Fennimore.

He worked for the Case Implement, Ray-O-Vac Corp., and John Deere for eight years, until going to work for the Grant County Highway Dept. for 20 years, until he retired in 2006.

Keith loved the outdoors; he enjoyed going camping, fishing, and boating with his family and friends.

He loved being a grandpa and shared many special times with his granddaughter Kenadee.

Keith truly cared about his family, friends and neighbors.

One of his passions was world hunger so he played the lottery in hopes to win and share it with the less fortunate.

This led to his church starting the "Keith's Quarters" fund which is part of the World Hunger drive.

Keith was a member of Saint Peter Lutheran Church and served on the church counsel as building and grounds chair.

Keith was also a member of the Whitish - Funk American Legion Post No. 184 of Fennimore, and the Gilbertson Pitzer VFW Post No. 10393 of Boscobel.

Keith will be deeply missed. His wonderful sense of humor, his smile and his contagious laugh will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Keith is survived by his wife, Sandra Stender of Fennimore; two daughters, Jennifer Ruth and her husband Don Nelson, and Julia Jill Stender both of Brooklyn; his precious granddaughter, Kenadee Nelson; his stepmother, Martha Stender of Loveland, Colorado.

Keith is further survived by five siblings, Ken (Barb) Stender of Greeley, Colorado, David (Michelle) Stender of Tucson, Arizona, Rick (Cathy) Stender of Castle Rock, Colorado, Laurie (Gary) Branvold of Berthoud, Colorado, and Gary Stender of Omro; and a sister-in-law, Connie Stender of South Beloit, Ill.

He is also survived by many other sisters and brothers-in-law; six godchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Mildred Stender; an infant sister, Jean Stender; and a brother, Charles "Chuck" Stender.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Grant County Hospice Staff and the Good Samaritan Society Staff for their love, care and support through these past few months.

Your generosity will always be remembered.
