Emerson D. Muehlenpfort, age 84, of Melvin died at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno.

Mr. Muehlenpfort was born Jan. 3, 1926 in Melvin, a son of John J. and Wilhelmina "Minnie" C. (Hoffman) Muehlenpfort. He married Suzanne C. Siems on Nov. 20, 1949 in Melvin. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Carrie Muehlenpfort, Melinda (Rick) Harms and Timothy J. Muehlenpfort; one sister, Lois Kietzman; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth; an infant brother, Weldon and a sister, Viola.

Emerson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict serving in the 1st Cavalry, 5th Regiment. He was a rural mail carrier in the Melvin and Roberts areas, retiring in 1988. He also farmed for many years.

He was a member of the Melvin United Methodist Church, Disabled American Veterans, Elliott AMVETS, VFW in Gibson City, the Melvin Fire Department and the Melvin American Legion.
