Born on 15 June, probably 1801 in Spenge, Germany, to parents Joh. Peter Henrich Brune and mother Cath Elsabein Kiel.
Peter married 11 October 1834 Anna Maria Grabemann from Neuenkirchen. She was listed as born 2 February 1801 and age 33. Peter is listed as a heurling [hired man] from the town of Spenge, born 1801 or 1811 [can't read] and age 24 or another age that is unclear in the record. His parents were both deceased. The bride's parents were Casper Henrich Grabemann, deceased from Neuenkirchen and mother was Marg. Cath. Elsabein Langschmidt. Based on census, immigration and cemetery records, Peter could have been born in 1802.
Peter and his wife immigrated from Bremen to New Orleans in steerage on the steam ship E. F. Gabain and arrived 15 November 1858. He was listed as age 55, farmer, from Hamlingdorf and destination St. Louis The ship's manifest shows no. 391 Peter Heinrich, age 55, farmer from Hamlingdorf; and no. 392 Louise Brune, age 55 from Hamlingdorf.
The 1860 census shows the family living in St. Louis and listed as Peter Broom [sic], labourer, age 55, born Prussia, value of personal estate $10; Louisz [sic], age 57, born Prussia; and Henry Broom, labourer, age 23, born Prussia.
In the 1880 census, Louise was living with her son, Henry and his family. They were listed as Henry Brune, age 40, box mfg; Sophi, age 31; Katie, age 17; Emma, age 8; Eddie, age 5; George age 3; John, age 3 months; and Louisa, age 80, mother, and can't read or write and her parents were born in Prussia.
St. Louis city directories show the following addresses for the family; 1860 Peter Brune, laborer, residence north side of Bremen Ave and 18th St (now 23rd St); 1866 Louise Brunen [sic], widow of Peter, residence on south side of Davis St. between Dora and 22nd St. (this is now Jefferson and Hebert Streets); and 1882 Louise Brune, widow of Henry Brune at 1934 Benton St. (later was 2344 Benton St.); and 1883 Anna Bruner [sic], widow Henry, resides 1932 Benton.
Peter died on 17 December 1865 at home at N. Market between 18th and 19th St., which is now 22nd and 23rd of hepatitis and dropsy. He is buried in St. Peter's Cemetery in the family plot, Old section, lot 1903 with his wife. The cemetery record says he was age 63, which would mean he was born in 1802. I purchased a stone for their graves in about 2010.
