Obituary of George Ott
Funeral services for George Marion Ott were held Saturday, Aug. 7, 1971 , at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Vona, Pastor Nelson Baird officiated at the services.
George Marion Ott was born Sept. 28, 1882, to George and Luerinda Ott at Union Star, Mo., and departed this life at the age of 88, on Aug. 4, 1971, at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver. He spent his early years at Union Star and in 1904 he went to Formosa, Kan., where he was engaged in farming . In December, 1907 he was married to Pearl Thornberg. In 1911 they homesteaded nine miles north of Vona. To this union was born three daughters . In March, 1914, his wife, Pearl passed away.
In the fall of 1915 he and the girls went to Lind, Wash., and stayed with his brother, Emery. In 1916 he and the girls went to Union Star, and stayed with his father and mother where he operated a garage.
In 1919 he married Myrtle Moyes of Union Star, after which they moved back to his farm at Vona. In1926 he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and joined the First Baptist Church of Vona, of which he was still a member. In 1936 they left the farm and moved to Denver. In May, 1953 Myrtl e passed away.
In May 1954 he and Gertrude George were married. In 1958 they moved to Vona, and in December, 1959 they moved to Burlington.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Gertrude, of Burlington; 3 daughters, Lucille Thompson of Portland, Ore., Madeline Becker of Vona, and Verda Elliott of Denver; 1 sister, Molly Kyler of Helna, Mo.; 3 sons-in-law , 7 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, n ieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A quartet consisting of Dorothy Tanner, Fern McCaffrey, Guy Harrison an d Forrest Tanner, accompanied by Alvina Esarey sang "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder," "In the Garden", and "The Old Rugged Cross".
Casket Baerers were Douglas Becker,' LeRoy Ellis, Dean Wigton, Russell Ott, Eugene George, and Norman Dean Travis. Honorary casket Baerers were Dan Tanner, Leslie Tanner, Harold Summers, and Zeke Kerl. Interment was at Vona cemetery.
Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George Miller, Mrs. Bob Noe, Mrs. Josie Miller, and Mrs. Molly Kyler of Helena, Mo. , Mrs. Bertha Gallinger, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ott, and Mr. and Mrs. W. L .
