IRMO - Services for Chance Hyatt Zobel, 23, will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Shandon Baptist Church, Columbia, with burial in Shady Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 16 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.
Chance died Saturday, November 13, 2010. Born in Columbia, he was a son of Robert Hyatt and Toni Fitts Zobel. He was a graduate of Dutch Fork High School, where he played varsity football. He also played AAU Baseball and was an avid outdoorsman.
Chance was with the Columbia Fire Department for 3 years. He graduated from the Columbia Fire Recruit School in February and had been with Engine Co. No. 4 for nine months. He was a volunteer with Salkehatchie Summer Service with Trinity United Methodist Church, Blythewood for nine years, two of those as assistant site leader. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his parents of Irmo; brother, William Randolph "Randy" Zobel of the home; fiancée, Katie Shearouse and her parents, Daniel and Rebecca of Irmo; aunts and uncles, Randy and Ruby Zobel of Springfield, Susan and Jim Madden, Bill and Karen Zobel all of Irmo, Marie Zobel Smith of Marietta, Ga. and Walton "Skip" Reid Fitts, Jr. and Abby of Gilbert; cousins, Sara Morgan "Mollie" Zoble and David Moss, Heather and Eric Wehr, Frances and Barry Ramey, Rebecca Zobel, Jason Smith, Laura Fitts, Kayla, Meagan, Brooks and Clayton Fitts. He was predeceased by grandparents, Walton and Barbara Kinard Fitts and William and Frances Dukes Zobel; and cousin, John Robert Zobel.
